The MH Friendship Club is designed to provide adults who are receiving mental health care with an opportunity to socialize in a non-clinical environment while developing new friendships, learning new skills and becoming more involved in the community. The club supports the principles of psychiatric rehabilitation and self-help.
The MH Friendship Club provides afternoon, early evening and Saturday programming. Members are given the opportunity to develop daily living skills by sharing responsibility for the daily operation of the club, including preparation of the evening meal. Socialization and recreation opportunities are provided on-site and in the community and may include such activities as camping, bowling, games, and crafts, attending community events and participating in team building exercises. Referral and outreach services are provided as needed.
Club members may choose to participate in fundraising projects to support special activities, such as overnight trips to special destinations or events.
Eligibility and Referrals:
Club members must (1) be 18 years of age or older, (2) have a diagnosed mental illness. (3) be receiving services from a mental health professional (therapist/psychologist/psychiatrist) as frequently as that professional deems necessary and (4) be either a resident of Cattaraugus County or be receiving mental health care in Cattaraugus County.
Each new member is required to complete an application packet that includes an application, baseline information, information release and a mental health provider verification form.
Fee: A $5 a month membership fee is charged. This fee is deposited in a special club account that is controlled by the club’s officers and membership. If any additional costs are associated with an activity, the cost is posted prior to the event.
