One thing is certain, apple cider vinegar is good at detoxifying your system. But does that translate to targetting and flushing out drug metabolites from your system?
Let’s go down that alley that’s got people who claim they were thankful that apple cider vinegar helped them pass their drug test. Without a doubt, it’s their story and their experience, and no matter what you choose to believe, you can’t take away how they passionately tell their story to inspire others to have ‘faith’ that vinegar would do the trick in any drug test.
To such people, one of the reasons why they use this simple inexpensive method is that vinegar is a common household ingredient easily within arm’s reach. Even if you don’t have any, it can be easily purchased and used when you have a short time interval until the test is done.
How to Use Vinegar to Pass a Drug Test
People that claim vinegar is effective for passing a drug test recommend the method below:
- Mix one teaspoonful of vinegar in at least one glass of water.
- Drink one gallon of water 3 hours leading to the drug test
- Pass urine as much as you can within the 3 hours before the drug test
They advise that this should be done only on the day of the test.
There is no doubt that drinking a lot of water and frequently passing urine about an hour or two, prior to the drug test MAY help mask the THC metabolites to help you pass the drug test. But this is just a dilution method which only gives you a very short window to have the possibility of passing the drug test.
The point here is that it is the copious amount of water they drink that possibly gets the job done and not necessarily the vinegar. Simply because the dilution method reduces THC concentration in urine and gives you a slight chance to pass a drug test.
However, drinking too much water in a short period of time can be detrimental to your health by causing water intoxication. In severe cases, this could lead to death. Is the risk worth it?
What is so special about vinegar?
Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid, as its main component, which can ultimately affect the results of a drug test.
In 2009, a study was published in the Bioscience, Biotechnology and Biochemistry Journal which concluded that acetic acid reduces the fat in the body leading to bodyweight reduction.
How is this related to passing a drug test?
Perhaps people are led to believe that vinegar can help pass a drug test because of the substantive evidence that acetic acid contributes to bodily fat reduction.
Since drug metabolites find their way into your body’s fat, using this method can to some extent get rid of the THC metabolites. However, for this to be effective it would require drinking vinegar daily for weeks or even months since vinegar acts slowly to reduce the fat mass in your body according to the research. This method may only work for those that have several months before their drug test.
But drug tests rarely take months before it’s done once the person involved is informed. Sometimes, it’s even done randomly. So this method can’t be totally relied on.
Vinegar as an Adulterant
Another group claims they passed their drug test when they added vinegar directly to their urine. This is known as the ‘adulterant method’.
A study published in the Journal of Analytical Toxicology confirms that adding apple cider vinegar causes false-negative results. The acetic acid which is the main component of vinegar has a pH measuring between 4 and 5 which can alter the pH level of urine to help pass a drug test.
“We investigated eight additives (NaCl, Visine,…vinegar, golden-seal tea, and lemon juice) claimed by drug users to invalidate enzyme immunoassay (EIA) drug assays”
“EIA assays for illicit drugs can be invalidated by specimen adulteration producing false-negative results”
Based on this research and several others, there’s more conclusive evidence that adding vinegar directly to urine, without a doubt, can help you pass a drug test. But this is only possible if the EIA method is used.
If the Gas Chemotherapy-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) method which is more effective and expensive is used, your chances of passing the drug test are thinner and smaller than putting a thread through a needle.
Using apple cider vinegar may help you pass a drug test but it depends on the test method used. For instance, well-equipped labs that use a more expensive method can tell if urine has been adulterated. Also how long you’ve got before taking the drug test can greatly impact the results.
